James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
Being a parent is tough, especially when it comes to explaining things to your kids. Even though my children are young I have still had some awkward conversations with them. Sometimes its just amazing to see how my kids respond to what I tell them, when I feed their interests. My son especially surprises me with the way he comprehends and interprets what I have said to him when we have an in depth conversation.
Discussing the recent events in our city has been a conversation I was hoping to avoid. I had no intention of telling my son about the Twin Peaks incident here in Waco,Texas. Unfortunately he overheard me and my husband talking and he immediately began asking questions. My husbands answer to him was, something happened on the other side of town and we need to stay home tonight to make sure we are safe. His questions were silenced, or so we thought.
Later that night as I put the children to bed my son looked at me and asked “What happened in Waco?”. The only explanation I could give him was that some guys at a restaurant got into a big fight and some of them had guns and some of them died but the police were taking care of everything. I told him we should include them in our prayers. The words that came out of this kids mouth were like nothing I could have imagined. He asked for protection over our city. He asked Jesus to change the hearts of the “bad guys”, for them to give their lives to Jesus and for Him to forgive them of their sins. He wanted the “bad guys” to know that Jesus loves them and can forgive them and they don’t have to be “bad” anymore, they can be saved. I can’t even describe in words what I felt as this 6 year old boy brought me to tears.
With the events that took place as well as all of the other violent acts that have happened across our country all I see is alot of judgement and hate. We are all a work of the master. Fearfully and wonderfully made. Intricately woven together in our mothers womb! Regardless of the different shades of our skin. Do our hearts not beat the same? Do we not breath in and out?
If we are called to live like Jesus then where is our compassion? Jesus hung around with murderers, thieves, adulterers. He shared His meals with those that are discriminated against because of their outward appearance and their actions. He forgave, and He still forgives.
I am in no way justifying the incredibly unacceptable behavior that seems to be running rampant in the earth. I am saying we should be praying for the salvation of souls, the renewal of hope! Jesus said what is asked in His name can be done and we should believe in it! Where two or more are gathered there He is. This nation is in need of a revival. Those who follow Jesus need to rise up, we need to recognize and believe and trust fully in the name of Jesus. Until we recognize this we are doomed.
The main point of this post is that if my 6 year old son can see that those who commit acts of violence, criminals and murderers, are in need of a savior and he takes the time to lift them up in prayer…..What’s stopping you?
Lift your neighborhood, city, county, state, country, world up in prayer. It’s the only way we will see breakthrough on this earth.
My Prayer :
Lord, You see the violence, the hate, the crime, the unspeakable acts that are going on in the world. I ask that your spirit would pour out upon the earth. I pray for an uprising of your people. That you would be glorified Lord in all the earth. That those who believe in you would not be ashamed of declaring your name. I pray that we would rise up to answer your call, that we would bring your word to the lost. That eyes would be opened to your love and majesty. Fill our hearts Lord with love that overflows. Help us to love the poor, the lost, the unfortunate, the fatherless, the orphan, the widow. Help us to do your work. Lord forgive those who have sinned against you. Thank you for all you have done. Thank you for all that you will do. Thank you for another day of life and another day to shower your love on others. Let your kingdom come on this earth. I ask all of this in Jesus name, Amen.
P.S. I let my son title this post and pick the video, I think its appropriate 🙂
For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.1Samuel 16:7
2 Then He called a child to Him and had him stand among them. 3 “I assure you,” He said, “unless you are converted[a] and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child—this one is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.Matthew 18:2-4
Therefore I tell you, all the things you pray and ask for–believe that you have received them, and you will have them. Mark 11:24
1 Timothy 2:1-2 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
In the same way the Spirit also joins to help in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with unspoken groanings. Romans 8:26
