I usually try to avoid staying up to date on current events. I’m lost when it comes to conversations at work about reality shows, new music and what’s going on with this celebrity and that person over there. Most of the time I check the weather and that’s about it. Recently it has come to my attention that some things are unavoidable, or in other words some things will be smeared across everything you see. There’s alot to learn from the covers of the magazines at the grocery store checkout, from abortion laws, immigration laws, to marriage being redefined, there’s alot going on in this world. Most of the time the good things going on are overshadowed by the bad.
Recently I’ve read multiple posts, articles, comments from others about current events involving our government and laws that have been enacted. My first response (the flesh) of course was to be bothered and have my feathers completely ruffled by the events. But it took just a few sentences to make things clearer to me (my spirit). To paraphrase a post I read ” We are trying to make this world more comfortable for Christians, but this world does not belong to Christians, this is not our home.”
As Christians we try and do whatever we can to make this world to line up with what our bible says is right. But we completely miss what it says! We are not of this world! Those who are in Christ Jesus will be taken from this world! So why are we so upset about what is happening? Every thing that happens in this world that is against God’s word is just another fulfillment of scripture! I’m not going off on an end of times tangent but I’m just saying in the end the people of this world will fall away from Jesus and mock God’s word. The people who do not know Jesus will continue to do whatever they want and have no regard for the people around them.
The job of the Church is to fulfill the commandment that was given by Jesus. We are to love others as our self and to love God! Jesus loved the sinners but not the sin. When we show people love they see Jesus in us,This is how people are saved. If you accepted the salvation that Jesus has offered then you have accepted His command as well. Do not go off on a hate fueled rampage and persecute and judge others. The job of judge, jury, and executioner belongs to the Most High!
33“Little children, I am with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’ 34“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35“By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:33-35
We are to encourage, help bring healing and love.
Our faith is being tested here, but remember you will produce endurance and perseverance if you stand on God’s word and His promises! We will have to endure the things of this world. We will see things we never wished to see and our children as well. But as Jesus said “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
So I say to you, people of the world. Pray for the nation and the world, pray for your family, your neighbor. Pray for the drug addicts, alcoholics, the homeless, the prostitutes, the murderers, pray for everybody! I have seen people healed and delivered from their afflictions, after all Jesus is a healer! As a mere human we cannot change the world, only Jesus can!
Jesus, I pray for strength for your people. I pray that we would not grow weary in doing what is right and doing what you have commanded. I know we will face so much persecution for believing in you, I just ask that our faith would be renewed, I ask that you would pour out your refreshing water upon the hearts of your people. Help us as a people to stand firm on your word,to face what is yet to come, to know that you are with us always and that anything is possible with You! Give us words to say to those who don’t know you, and help us to take advantage of every opportunity you give us to reach out to others. I pray that our hearts would overflow and your love would pour out of us onto others. I thank you so much for the sacrifice you gave and for every blessing you continue to give. I pray for protection and strength over all of us.I pray that those who love you would not be a stumbling block to others. I pray for eyes and hearts of unbelievers to be opened to you. I pray for repentance, that people would turn from their wicked ways! In your name I ask and pray, Amen.
The Letters to the Seven Churches
The Letter to Ephesus
2 “Write to the angel[a] of the church in Ephesus:
“The One who holds the seven stars in His right hand and who walks among the seven gold lampstands says: 2 I know your works, your labor, and your endurance, and that you cannot tolerate evil. You have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and you have found them to be liars. 3 You also possess endurance and have tolerated many things because of My name and have not grown weary. 4 But I have this against you: You have abandoned the love you had at first. 5 Remember then how far you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. Otherwise, I will come to you[b] and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent. 6 Yet you do have this: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
7 “Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. I will give the victor the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in[c] God’s paradise.
The Letter to Smyrna
8 “Write to the angel of the church in Smyrna:
“The First and the Last, the One who was dead and came to life, says: 9 I know your[d] affliction and poverty, yet you are rich. I know the slander of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. 10 Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. Look, the Devil is about to throw some of you into prison to test you, and you will have affliction for 10 days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown[e] of life.
11 “Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. The victor will never be harmed by the second death.
The Letter to Pergamum
12 “Write to the angel of the church in Pergamum:
“The One who has the sharp, double-edged sword says: 13 I know[f] where you live—where Satan’s throne is! And you are holding on to My name and did not deny your faith in Me,[g] even in the days of Antipas, My faithful witness who was killed among you, where Satan lives. 14 But I have a few things against you. You have some there who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to place a stumbling block[h] in front of the Israelites: to eat meat sacrificed to idols and to commit sexual immorality.[i] 15 In the same way, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans.[j] 16 Therefore repent! Otherwise, I will come to you quickly and fight against them with the sword of My mouth.
17 “Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. I will give the victor some of the hidden manna.[k] I will also give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name is inscribed that no one knows except the one who receives it.
The Letter to Thyatira
18 “Write to the angel of the church in Thyatira:
“The Son of God, the One whose eyes are like a fiery flame and whose feet are like fine bronze,[l] says: 19 I know your works—your love, faithfulness,[m] service, and endurance. Your last works are greater than the first. 20 But I have this against you: You tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and teaches and deceives My slaves to commit sexual immorality[n] and to eat meat sacrificed to idols. 21 I gave her time to repent, but she does not want to repent of her sexual immorality.[o] 22 Look! I will throw her into a sickbed and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of her[p] practices. 23 I will kill her children with the plague.[q] Then all the churches will know that I am the One who examines minds[r] and hearts, and I will give to each of you according to your works. 24 I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who haven’t known the deep things[s] of Satan—as they say—I do not put any other burden on you. 25 But hold on to what you have until I come. 26 The one who is victorious and keeps My works to the end: I will give him authority over the nations—
27 and he will shepherd[t] them with an iron scepter;
he will shatter them like pottery[u]—
just as I have received this from My Father. 28 I will also give him the morning star.
29 “Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches.
