Living with Thanksgiving

“Go forth today, by the help of God’s Spirit, vowing and declaring that in life—-come poverty, come wealth, in death—come pain or come what may, you are and ever must be the Lord’s. For this is written on your heart, ‘We love Him because He first loved us.’” ~ Charles H. Spurgeon

Today people all around the country gather with friends, family, and some even with strangers to give thanks on this Thanksgiving Day. I can’t help but wonder if people are actually giving thanks or just continuing another tradition that was passed on to them, a day of gathering and eating food watching football and then going home.

Today I held a precious, beautiful new life in my hands, and at the same time an old life was ending.

Today I give thanks for life. I give thanks for every breath I take today and for the time the Lord allows me to have here on earth. Each moment, each day is another opportunity for me to show his love, even when its the hardest thing to do.

Be thankful for your life. You only get to live it once. People around the world are fighting for theirs and alot are losing for the sake of Jesus.

Every life the Lord has made has worth, purpose, and meaning. He created us, he knows every moment of our lives before we have breathed our first breath. Do you know you were created with a purpose? You were meant to change lives, you were meant to love, to show others they are valuable too.

14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:14-16

“Where I was born and where and how I have lived is unimportant. It is what I have done with where I have been that should be of interest.” ~ D.L. Moody

I was inspired by the words of a recent speaker at church to make some changes. She said “Wake up for your life not to your life”. What she was trying to say was to wake up with a purpose. Wake up and spend time with Jesus, develop a personal relationship and ask Him to show you something or speak to you. I’ve made it my own personal challenge to just ask God to help me to do His will, for me to show His love, and for me to use my position at work and at home to make an impact. Since I began doing this He has showed me over and over the importance of what I do. Most of the time I feel unappreciated which is common in my line of work. Just like most people I feel like work can become mundane at times. God has opened doors for me to do different things and it’s been up to me to take advantage of what He has for me. Sometimes doing what is asked of me is difficult, and it can even be scary. Even when it’s not easy, trusting in Him for everything in life can be so rewarding.

“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.
Before you were born I set you apart
and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5

When I feel like nothing I do matters, like I’m not making a difference in anything I do, I ask God for something, anything, a sign, a word, something to tell me what I am doing is making a difference even when I don’t see it. And as always,God is faithful. Everything he says is true.

I see proof in a letter written by my 7 year old, watching the faith he has, seeing firsthand what it is like to have real true childlike faith. I hear his little voice call out to the Lord. His first instinct in all things is to put it in God’s hands. He loves Jesus and the relationship they share. Just seeing this lived out in him shows me that no matter what; my life is impacting my child’s. Whatever I am doing is reflected in my son. That’s worth giving thanks to the Lord for each day.

The Lord will work out his plans for my life—
for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever.
Don’t abandon me, for you made me. Psalms 138:8

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.Romans 8:37

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20

 Prayer:

Lord, I pray that your people would humbly see their worth in you. I pray they would recognize the purpose you have for their lives and boldly live it out. I pray that your people would see the value in each day you give them and take advantage of every opportunity given. I pray that the church would rise up and come together for your purposes in the earth. I pray for strength in your people. I pray that those who do not know you, those who deny you, those who refuse to bow would be shaken to their knees. I pray your voice would be heard loudly across the earth. I pray that more hearts would be turned to you then ever before, let your people increase, may you increase in them. I thank you Lord for the chance to reach out to others. I pray that the words I type are echoed. Thank you Lord, for everything. Amen.

It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise

So we pour out our praise
